Hello, I'm Isla! I recently graduated from Durham University with a first-class degree in Biological Sciences. During my second and third years at university, I formally tutored students at various levels up to A-Levels. I greatly enjoy teaching and have been doing informal tutoring throughout my educational journey from GCSEs. I am keen to help students understand, engage with, and enjoy the content they are learning! I tutored Biology A-Level during my university years. My teaching style focuses on question-and-answer methods, with exam and study questions helping further enhance the student's knowledge of the subject, which helped me achieve 8/9s in GSCE science subjects and an A* in A-Level Biology. However, I will alter lessons to complement the student's needs. I explore anything the students don't understand until they feel confident about the material, using visual aids to reinforce any particular areas of difficulty. I also like to bring in extra material related to the everyday world they see and the information they are learning about. I will always work to improve their confidence in themselves and their skills. Furthermore, I have developed acute skills in writing scientific essays, literature reviews, and designing an ecology project. Therefore, I can provide feedback and offer any aid to those who want to improve in any of these areas. During my work experience and while volunteering for a SHINE project, I worked with younger kids (KS2) to provide English lessons. I immensely enjoyed teaching this subject and am enthusiastic about English. I obtained an English Literature scholarship for my A-level education, achieved an A* for English Literature A-level, and am spending my current year after my university degree working on a novel. I would love to help any student find a passion for creative writing or analysis of literature, which allows them to prepare before they go into KS3 or GCSEs. In my free time, I work on a fiction novel, sew, or hike in the wilderness. I am interested in mycology, spending lots of time looking for and identifying various fruiting fungi, and zoology, enjoying any time spent with animals! I aim to promote the same enthusiasm and inspire confidence in the students during their academic journey. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you and your student to achieve their academic and personal goals!

Hi! I am a Masters graduate with a Distinction in Creative Writing, along with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from Durham University. I also achieved A* in English Literature at A Level and A* in English Literature and English Language at GCSE. My lessons are generally structured around past questions from the relevant exam board. I will usually give students 5-10 minutes to read the extract and make initial notes relating to the question, before going through my own notes and how I would approach the question. This includes close analysis of key themes, literary devices and the writer's intentions, alongside a suggested essay structure which takes students through what to include paragraph by paragraph. I then give students the opportunity to begin writing a response to the question and am available to offer assistance as required. Students can then finish the question as homework and I will provide feedback in our next session - if requested, I can also provide live feedback paragraph by paragraph while you are writing. I'm currently working on the novel I wrote for my Master's degree and gathering research for my PhD next year. I'm extremely passionate about tutoring - my ambition is to become a university lecturer and published novelist. I only offer tutoring in English related topics as this is my specific area of expertise, and I want to ensure I can provide great quality, well-informed sessions. Contact me for personalised lesson plans and friendly, patient tutoring!

Need an English Language Tutor to Help Your Child Succeed?

Key Stage 2 is where children turn early literacy skills into confident reading, clear writing and stronger communication. Across Years 3 to 6, pupils develop reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, spelling and written expression while also learning to adapt their writing for different purposes and audiences. These years are especially important because they shape how comfortably a child can access the wider curriculum, from Science and History to future exam preparation. The national curriculum for English at KS2 places a strong emphasis on reading fluency, vocabulary development, writing accuracy and spoken language across the primary years.

Many families begin by looking at wider KS2 tutors before choosing a specialist English Language tutor when reading confidence drops, grammar becomes harder or writing progress starts to stall. Personalised support can help children strengthen weak areas early, feel more secure in class and build the foundations they will later rely on in KS3 English Language tutor lessons and beyond.

The right tutor can help a child become a more confident reader, a clearer writer and a stronger communicator across school as a whole.

KS2 English Language tutoring typically starts from around £25-£30 per hour, although the exact rate depends on the tutor’s experience, lesson frequency and the type of support a child needs. Some families arrange regular weekly lessons throughout the school year, while others book help before Year 6 assessments or when reading and writing confidence starts to dip. Many compare different options before deciding to find a tutor that suits their child’s learning style and academic needs.
