From protein crystallography and bioinformatics to cutting-edge research on aging, these experiences shaped my understanding of science and how to make it approachable and exciting for students. One of my proudest moments was as part of Birkbeck’s very first iGEM team in 2015. We took on a synthetic biology challenge, designed plasmid constructs, and even presented our work in Boston, USA, earning a Bronze award. My name is Tanirmalai Sethu, and I’m currently a first-year medical student at Queen Mary University of London.
